Weekend Chase in Metropolis Leads to Man’s Arrest

METROPOLIS – A Metropolis man was arrested on multiple charges after leading Metropolis Police on a vehicle and foot chase Saturday.
According to Metropolis Police, an officer saw a gray Honda Accord turn onto Catherine from 7th Street and recognized the driver – 29-year-old Austin C. Burnham of Metropolis.
The officer was aware that Burnham had a revoked driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Criminal Damage to Property.
As the officer was turning around, Burnham fled at a high rate of speed in his car. At 6th and Ophia, Burnham fled on foot leaving the car in the roadway. Officers searched the area. Officers went to the parent’s home and were given permission to search. Burnham was found hiding inside the home.
Burnham was charged with the warrant, driving while license revoked, resisting/obstructing arrest and violation of an order of protection.
Burnham was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
