CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police are investigating a report of suspicious activity involving a man saying that he is a Carbondale Police officer.
According to Carbondale Police, at 12 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 400 block of West Main Street after a call came in about a man standing on the porch outside of their apartment. When the caller opened the door to see who it was, the man identified himself as a Carbondale Police officer.
Without further explanation, the man turned and walked away, saying he was calling for backup. He left the area in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee that had lights on the top of the vehicle. He was described as a white male around 5’10” tall, approximately 50 years old with grey hair and a grey beard. He was wearing blue pants, a blue collared shirt, and a vest.
Carbondale Police say they have no record of any officers in the area at that time and has not identified any other agencies who reported having officers in that area. This is the only incident involving the possible impersonation of a Carbondale police officer that is currently reported.
If anyone is uncertain about the identity of a purported law enforcement officer in the City of Carbondale, contact the Carbondale Police Department for verification.
