BENTON – Attorney General Kwame Raoul Friday announced a former Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employee pleaded guilty to official misconduct based on an allegation that the Macon County man exposed himself to a fellow female IDNR employee.
Forty-eight-year-old James Mayes of Mt. Zion pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of official misconduct, a Class 3 felony. Mayes was sentenced by Franklin County Circuit Court Judge Tom Tedeschi to 30 months of probation and will be required to undergo a sex offender evaluation and any recommended treatment.
According to Raoul, Mayes, a law enforcement captain with the IDNR Office of Law Enforcement, exposed his private area to a female coworker with whom he shared an office space and desk in the IDNR office located in Benton.
The case was initially investigated by the IDNR, and then referred to the Office of the Executive Inspector General (OEIG). The Attorney General’s office prosecuted the case based on a referral from the OEIG.
