JOHNSTON CITY – The Illinois State Fire Marshal is currently investigating a fire that destroyed a home where two people were trapped inside Tuesday morning on West 5th Street in Johnston City.
According to a post on the Southern Illinois Fire Incidents Facebook page, firefighters from Johnston City, Herrin and Marion all responded.
Johnston City Police also responded and were able to free the couple trapped inside the home by breaking out a bedroom window. The couple had burns, but didn’t want to be treated.
The fire caused major damage to the home. It’s a total loss.
