WEST FRANKFORT – An accidental fire happened at a home in the 200 block of North Jackson Street in West Frankfort around 11:40 Tuesday morning.
According to West Frankfort Fire Captain Jesse Jeffords, firefighters responded to the home after a neighbor called the fire department stating there was smoke coming from the home.
Firefighters found a working fire with light smoke coming from the eaves of the home. They conducted an offensive fire attack through the front door. Inside firefighters were met with moderate smoke conditions and found fire in a bedroom. The fire was extinguished while a primary search was conducted with nothing found.
The homeowner eventually arrived and confirmed there were no occupants in the home. Overhaul was complete and the fire was confirmed extinguished with no extension. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and was caused by an outlet extender with Christmas decorations plugged into it.
The West Frankfort Fire Department was assisted by MABAS mutual aid with the Benton Fire Department, Johnston City Fire Department and Buckner Fire Departments responding.
