Potential for Winter Weather Later This Week for Our Region

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (WMIX) – The National Weather Service continues to watch two storm systems that could bring impacts to the region this week.

The first storm will bring widespread rain of 1 to 1.5 inches to the area late Monday through Tuesday night.

A few flurries may be possible before it ends Tuesday night. Southeast winds will gust 15 to 25 mph Monday and then southwest winds will gust 25 to 40 mph at times on Tuesday.

The second storm system will impact the region Thursday night through early Saturday.

The details of that system are still quite murky, but forecasters say the potential for impactful winter weather continues.

But it’s still too early to say whether snow, sleet, or freezing rain would pose the biggest threat. Forecast uncertainty is high, so the forecast is likely to change as we go through the week.
