MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Mt. Vernon Police arrested a 30-year-old Mt. Vernon man early Sunday morning on multiple weapons-related charges.

According to Police Chief Trent Page, Timmel Porter was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Habitual Criminal, Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer.

Page says officers received a report of a possible fight involving a firearm at DeeBee’s on South Ninth. Upon their arrival, they were told the man believed to be armed was walking away from the bar and was in the area of Eighth and Jordan.

However, Page says as his officers attempted to stop the man, he fled on foot and dropped a handgun.

He was ultimately apprehended and the handgun was found to be a Glock that was reported stolen sometime late last year.

Porter was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he’ll remain pending the formal filing of charges and a detention hearing.
