Man Allegedly Stabs Another Man Doing Maintenance at Murphysboro Home

MURPHYSBORO – A man is charged with Aggravated Battery after allegedly stabbing another man completing maintenance work in one of his tenants’ mobile homes along Business Highway 13 in rural Murphysboro Friday afternoon.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:30 p.m. deputies responded to an area hospital regarding a person who had been stabbed.

The victim, 67-year-old Randy J. Legrand of Murphysboro, said he was completing the work at the mobile home when the tenant, later identified as 39-year-old Jonathon M. Brim of Murphysboro, stabbed him in the neck area with a kitchen knife.

Legrand was taken by private vehicle to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies responded to the area where the stabbing happened and found Brim. He was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. and taken to the Jackson County Jail where he was lodged on the charge we mentioned at the beginning of this story.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
