HERRIN – A Mt. Vernon man was arrested and cited after leading Herrin Police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle early Saturday morning.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Jake A. Gilmore, was cited for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Driving While License Revoked. The sheriff’s office says this remains an ongoing investigation and additional charges are anticipated. Gilmore was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.
Sheriff’s deputies were advised that Herrin Police officers were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Herrin Police initially attempted to stop the vehicle for multiple traffic violations however, as the vehicle failed to yield for police, it was being reported stolen at the same time. The vehicle fled, leading law enforcement westbound on Herrin Road, South on Cambria Road, and westbound on Illinois Route 13.
As the vehicle approached Spillway Road, deputies and Herrin Police attempted to conduct a rolling road block which slowed the suspect to a near stop. Gilmore then departed the roadway, traveled through the median, and traveled a short distance until turning southbound onto Spillway Road.
As the vehicle entered Spillway Road, and was traveling at low speed, deputies conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. The vehicle lost traction and spun 180 degrees coming to rest in the roadway where it was quickly blocked in by multiple patrol units.
Gilmore, along with two passengers, were removed from the vehicle and detained.
