Doris Jean Givenrod

BENTON – Doris Jean Givenrod (“Jean”), 95, of Benton, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Jean was born on January, 18, 1929, in Texarkana, Texas, to Walter and Edna (Chatfield) Radeackar. The Radeackars moved to Cedar Hill, Missouri, when Jean was a child, where she grew up and graduated from St. Clair High School. She and Bud married and raised their family in Benton. Jean was a loving devoted and dedicated mother and homemaker. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Benton. She was a member and former secretary of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority in West Frankfort and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed travel and loved playing golf at the Franklin County Country Club. 

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Clifford “Bud” Givenrod, her parents, her sister Ruth Hillis, and her brother Walter “Sonny” Radeackar and Bud’s immediate family, parents, Clifford Earl and Emma Givenrod, and his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Edward Evers.

She is survived by her beloved daughters Janet Payne, Judy (Tom) Dailey, Susan Givenrod, and Beth Dunbar; grandchildren Mike (Malisha) Payne, Brian (Tara) Payne, Buddy (Michelle) Dailey, Nathan Dunbar, Chelsey (Trent Smith) Dunbar; great-grandchildren Ben Payne, Amanda Payne, Caitlyn Dailey, McKenna Dailey, Breighton Smith and Tinsley Smith. Jean was a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Union Funeral Home, located at 213 East Oak Street, in West Frankfort at 11 a.m. with Brother Mike Cash officiating. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Following the service, inurnment will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.
