Two Arrested Following Jefferson County Investigation into Stolen Anhydrous Ammonia

MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men over the weekend following an investigation into the theft of anhydrous ammonia.

According to the sheriff’s department, around 6 p.m. Friday, a deputy was investigating a theft earlier in the day of anhydrous ammonia in the 15600 block of E. Baseline Rd. in Texico.

The initial investigation led the deputy to 17413 E. Divide Rd. in Texico, where evidence of the theft was reportedly observed.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was contacted, and a search warrant for the home was obtained.

The warrant was served on the home, more evidence was located, and the primary resident, 41-year-old Eric A. Powell, was arrested on charges of Armed Violence, Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Transportation of Anhydrous Ammonia, Use of Property to Manufacture (Methamphetamine), Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession Controlled Substance, and Tamper Anhydrous Ammonia Un-Authorized Container.

A second subject in the home, 43-year-old Jeffrey J. Woods of Centralia, was arrested on charges of Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and an outstanding Marion County warrant for Failure to Appear.

Both Powell and Woods were taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and individual detention hearings.
