Metropolis Police Report

METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, June 3, 2024.

On May 29, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to Huck’s for a theft. The victim advised that she parked her electric bicycle outside and went into Huck’s for approximately 15 minutes. Her bike was stolen during this time. Later that morning once the manager arrived, video footage was obtained of the theft. The thief was identified as 41-year-old Kevin B. Somner of Metropolis. Officers learned where he was living in a camper down a dead end lane on Massac Creek Road. Officers went to the location and observed the bicycle. Somner was also located and placed under arrest. The bicycle was damaged where he removed the ignition and damaged the battery. Somner was charged with Theft and Criminal Damage to Property. He was released on a notice to appear.

On May 30, 2024, a Metropolis sergeant started an investigation where an 13-year-old juvenile was struck in the face five to six times by an older male he identified as 23-year-old Tyler M. Bradbury of Benton, KY. During the course of the investigation, Bradbury was located at a residence in the Fairmont Apartments on East 12th. Bradbury was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery-Public Property and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On May 31, 2024, Metropolis officers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Greenview for a theft. Upon arrival, the victim advised that while out of town, they had contractors doing repairs. Video showed one of the employees taking some prescription medication out of the residence. The offender was identified as 22-year-old Jonathan M. Schueler of Joppa, IL. Schueler’s boss was contacted in an effort to track down Schueler. Schueler was eventually contacted and met with Metropolis officers at the police department and interviewed. Schueler was charged with Unauthorized Possession of Prescription Medication and released on a notice to appear. 

On June 1, 2024, a Metropolis officer stopped a maroon Ford on West 10th and Broadway Street. The driver, 26-year-old Benjamin G. Bates of Centerville, TN, had a suspended driver’s license. After processing, he was released on a notice to appear.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
