Rend Lake Selected as a 2024 Leave No Trace Spotlight

BENTON – Rend Lake has been selected as one of 20 Leave No Trace Spotlight Sites for 2024. This designation aims to address challenges associated with increased usage and to showcase community efforts to overcome these challenges. Leave No Trace (LNT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care, responsibility, and stewardship of the outdoors. LNT conducts recreation-related research, provides education and training on outdoor ethics, and helps partners lead service projects.

From June 6th to 8th, a Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team will be at Rend Lake, collaborating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deliver Leave No Trace education and partner on a stewardship project.

Thursday, June 6th Introduction to Leave No Trace Skills & Ethics: Join Leave No Trace for an interactive workshop open to staff, partners, and the public. Learn about Leave No Trace principles and guidelines to practice whether at the beach, on the water, while camping, or in your everyday life. RSVP/Advance sign-up is encouraged.

Friday, June 7th Leave No Trace Pop-up Education & Rend Lake Outreach: Participate in engaging, family-friendly outreach and education. Meet the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team, play quick games, and learn how to protect Rend Lake and other outdoor spaces.

Saturday, June 8th: Beach Blast Shoreline Cleanup: Join Leave No Trace, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and partners for a fun volunteer day and stewardship project during the Rend Lake Beach Blast and Leave No Trace Spotlight.
