BENTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake invites you to the annual Beach Blast at South Sandusky Beach on Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Join Rend Lake Park Rangers for a day of water safety and fun in the sun!
Beach Blast offers a variety of beach day activities, including beach games, a DJ playing family-friendly music, a sand sculpture contest, and a helicopter landing. Bobber the Water Safety Dog will make a special appearance. Local emergency response personnel will also be on-site with interactive demonstrations:
- Sesser Fire Protection District will display their firetruck and allow kids to explore inside.
- Abbott EMS will provide hands-only CPR demonstrations with an on-site ambulance.
- The Air-Evac Lifeteam 35 will land a helicopter near the beach around 3 p.m. giving kids the chance to climb inside for photos.
Food trucks will be available, and day-use fees at South Sandusky Beach will be waived for the event, making it free and open to the public. Beach Blast is designed for all ages, with activities especially for kids.
From 1 to 3 p.m., there will be a shoreline cleanup event as part of the Leave No Trace Spotlight at Rend Lake. Gloves and bags will be provided for volunteers. Black Dog Storage/Kayak Rentals will offer kayaks for participants to collect litter from the water. Pre-registration is required to borrow a kayak.
