METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, June 24, 2024.
On Sunday, June 16, 2024, Brandon L. Smith, 41, of Joppa was arrested near 5th and Yasoda. Smith was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Driving while License Suspended. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On Monday, June 17, 2024, Metropolis Police were notified by Paducah Police that they were investigating a stolen truck that belong to Orkin Exterminators had been stolen in their city and that the truck was “pinging” in the area of North Avenue and Country Club Road. Metropolis officers and Massac County deputies responded to the area. A Metropolis officer observed the vehicle southbound on North Ave from Korte. The officer activated his lights and siren and the vehicle did not stop. Speeds were 57 mph in a 30 mph zone and the offender got boxed in by responding units at North Avenue and Carter Lane. The driver was a 16-year-old juvenile and there were five other juveniles in the vehicle. The juvenile was charged with Possession of a Stolen Auto, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Police, Speeding, and No Valid Driver’s License. He was issued a notice to appear. After Paducah Police arrived and interviewed the subjects, all were released to their parents. Paducah Police may be issuing additional charges at a later time.
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a vehicle turning off of Ferry onto 9th Street. The officer recognized the driver, Ryan J. Kline, 31, of Metropolis. As the officer prepared for the traffic stop, Kline accelerated and failed to stop for the stop sign at 9th and Market. Once Kline pulled over, the officer made contact and observed the front tire to be bald and slick. Kline stated he was a “traveler” and did not need a driver’s license. A computer check confirmed that Kline still had a suspended driver’s license. Kline was charged with Driving while License Suspended, Disobeying a Stop Sign and Unsafe/Bald Tire. He was released on a notice to appear.
