Metropolis Police Report

METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, July 22, 2024. 

On July 17, 2024, Metropolis Police were called to the Dollar General on East 8th Street for a theft. The caller knew the thief and identified him a Dwane Dillon. The caller stated Dillon had left the store without paying for a swimming pool. Officers responded to the area and Dwane J. Dillon, 52, of Joppa was located along with the pool. Dillon was charged with Retail Theft and issued a notice to appear.

On July 17, 2024, a Metropolis Officer stopped a black Chevrolet on Lois Lane from North Avenue. A computer check showed that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver, Diane M. Flora, 54, of Metropolis gave the officer a false name and date of birth. A Metropolis sergeant arrived who knew Flora and asked her why she gave a false name and she said she panicked. She was arrested and search found her to be in possession of methamphetamine. Flora was charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, obstructing identification and possession of methamphetamine. Flora was processed and released on a notice to appear.

On July 17, 2024, a Metropolis officer stopped a black Chevrolet pickup truck on 12th Street and Ophia Street. A computer check revealed that the registration was suspended. A computer check on the driver, Roy S. Johnson, 53, of Anna, IL, revealed that his driver’s license was revoked. Johnson was charged with driving while license revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle with suspended registration. He was released on a notice to appear.

On July 18, 2024, Metropolis Police and Massac County deputies were called to the wooded area on Old Marion Road and East 19th Street. Numerous callers notified 911 stating that the Adairs were yelling and screaming at each other. Upon arrival, a Metropolis officer could hear the screaming and yelling from the roadway. The officer located the tent they were living in and tried to get them to quiet down. They refused and continued their argument. Loretta L. Adair, 36, and Patrick W. Adair, 37, were advised that they would be charged with disorderly conduct if they did not quiet down. They did not stop and were charged and released on a notice to appear.

On July 21, 2024, a Metropolis sergeant stopped a silver Honda SUV for failing to use it turn signal when it turned from Devers onto East 5th Street. A computer check on the driver, Stephen D. Middleton, 70, of Brookport revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Middleton was charged with driving while license suspended and fail to signal as required. He was released on a notice to appear.

On July 21, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of East 5th Street. The victim stated that she was in the apartment below hers at a friend’s house and could hear her ex-boyfriend banging on her door and then he forced his way in. The offender, Jacob M. Ormes, 39, of Paducah left in a white Charger prior to the police arriving. A Metropolis officer located the vehicle leaving the scene and conducted a traffic stop. Ormes was arrested for criminal damage to property and criminal damage to property. A search revealed that he was in possession of methamphetamine. He was charged with that as well. Ormes was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On July 21, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to Guardian Family Services on 10th Street. Officers learned that Timothy A. Scott, 30, of Brookport had once again violated the order of protection and contacted the victim. Officers viewed the messages and with the help of a Massac County deputy, went to Scott’s residence in Brookport. Scott was arrested for violation of an order of protection and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
