CARRIER MILLS – A swatting incident is under investigation in Saline County.
Carrier Mills Police Chief Scott Isaacs says the Saline County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call around 8:15 Sunday night from an individual who had claimed he had shot and killed his father.
The caller further stated that he was armed and barricaded in a home close to Carrier Mills High School and that he would shoot any responding officer.
Saline County Sheriff’s deputies, the Carrier Mills Police Department, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police, and the Harrisburg Police Department all responded to the area and a command post was established in the high school parking lot. A perimeter was established on the suspect location. Officers eventually made entry to an unoccupied home. After clearing the area, officers resumed their normal duties.
Chief Isaacs says this “fake” call is known as a swatting incident where false information is reported that requires a large response from emergency personnel. It is also a felony criminal offense.
The chief says the investigation into this swatting incident continues and will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
