SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The National Weather Service in Paducah says an Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for most of the area with the exception of Jefferson and White County until 8 p.m. Thursday. Jefferson and White County are under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around 105 to 110 are expected, and locally higher readings up to 115 is possible.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also take care of your outdoor pets. If you can bring them inside. If not, then make sure they have some shade and fresh water.
