Warrant Scam Reported in White County

CARMI – The White County Sheriff’s Office has received reports that people are using the sheriff’s number to call residents and tell them they have a warrant for their arrest.

Sheriff Jordan Weiss, nor any White County deputy, will call you for warrant service.

The sheriff’s office said on their Facebook page that scammers are very convincing when they are attempting to gain your information. A good general rule is not to answer calls that are not in your contacts. Anyone attempting to reach you will leave a message.

Never trust a call where you are being asked to pay with gift cards, wire transfer, or bitcoin.

Never give your personal information to unknown callers.
