Metropolis Police Report

METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024. 

On Aug. 12, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 800 block of Catherine for a possible domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers could hear a heated argument going on inside the home. Officers observed that the victim had an injury to her face. She advised that she was beat up and struck in the face with a fist. Scott A Smith, 39, of Metropolis was arrested for Domestic Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On Aug. 13, 2024, Metropolis detectives had been investigating a burglary which had occurred at the Marathon station on East 12th Street. The investigation led to a suspect. A search warrant was obtained and evidence was seized from the residence. Dalton A. Light, 30, of Metropolis was arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft and Criminal Damage to Property. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On Aug. 15, 2024, Terence C. Moore, 41, of Metropolis was arrested in the 200 block of East 11th Street. Moore was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA Driving while License Suspended. Moore was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On Aug. 14, 2024, officers were called to Harrah’s in the parking lot. They met with IGB agents who informed them that a Pontiac G6 had been ransacked and damaged. The offender also took the license plates. Upon contacting the registered owner, officers learned that the vehicle had been stolen and numerous items were missing and damaged from the vehicle. The vehicle also had been damaged. The investigation led to Randy L. Bradley Jr., 33, of Metropolis as the suspect. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Bradley went on a mini crime spree. He broke into the First Methodist Church, and another residence near 5th and Scott Street. The victim from this crime had called the police and they located Bradley in the alley between 5th and 6th streets. Bradley was extremely irrational and combative. He was finally taken into custody and transported to the Massac County Detention Center. Bradley was charged with numerous felonies including two charges of residential burglary, two charges of criminal damage to property, vehicular burglary and other misdemeanor charges.

On Aug. 14, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a vehicle on West 12th and Vienna Street. He recognized the driver, Jay B. Tyson, 31, of Metropolis. The officer was aware that Tyson’s driver’s license was suspended. A traffic stop was conducted and a computer confirmed his license was still suspended. Tyson was charged and released on a notice to appear.

On Aug. 17, 2024,. Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of West 21st Street. The caller advised that Larry W. Burrus. 73, of Metropolis keeps coming to his home. Burrus has been previously been trespassed from the property. Burrus was charged with Criminal Trespass to Property and released on a notice to appear.

On Aug. 17, 2024, officers responded to a call of a woman calling for help in the 700 block of East 12th Street. Upon arrival, officers located the woman sitting in a car, but she refused to cooperate or tell them what had happened. Officers observed that her hand was bleeding. While speaking to her, Cleon Tanner, 47, of Metropolis approached and became argumentative and refused to cooperate. He was informed he was being detained until this situation could be figured out. He refused to cooperate and struggled with the officers. He resisted and struggled with the officers. Once handcuffed, he was searched and found to be in possession of a butcher knife in his right pocket. Tanner was charged with Obstructing a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. The victim refused to cooperate and went inside the residence. She also refused medical attention.

On Aug. 18, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to he Baymont Hotel for an unruly patron. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Matthew E. Stevens, 40, of Brookport. A computer check revealed that he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Jackson County, IL, for probation violation. Stevens was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
