MARION – A Herrin woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday night in Williamson County.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian accident around 11:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of Lake of Egypt Road.
Deputies discovered that a pedestrian, identified as Jana M. Lence of Herrin, was struck by a passing motorist while attempting to cross the roadway.
Lence was taken by EMS and later pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 17 year old juvenile who was traveling home from work.
While deputies saw no signs of impairment, the driver, with parental consent, submitted to voluntary drug and alcohol screening at a local hospital.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
This remains an ongoing investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
