Centralia Boy Burned by Incendiary Device Thrown through Bedroom Window

CENTRALIA – A 13-year-old boy was injured and rushed to a local hospital around 11:30 Tuesday night when an incendiary device was thrown through his bedroom window in the 600 block of South Locust Street in Centralia.

The boy suffered burns to his left forearm and hand when a Molotov cocktail burst through a piece of cardboard covering his bedroom window and landed in his bed.

Centralia fire officials say the boy’s father, Jared Halstien, had removed the boy from danger and extinguished the fire by the time they arrived.

The boy’s injury and circumstances of that injury required the State Fire Marshal’s Office to call for an investigation with the Centralia Police Department as well as the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

This investigation is ongoing; however, police say they have suspects.

No further information is available at this time.
