MCLEANSBORO – Stephen Farris, 75, a resident of McLeansboro, IL, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Stephen was born in McLeansboro, IL, on June 11, 1949. He was a son of George and Pearl Farris. Stephen married Bonita Patterson on August 28, 1971, in McLeansboro and she survives.
Stephen worked on old vehicles and enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren. Stephen was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office. He served as a National Association for Letter Carriers Representative and was the Food Drive Coordinator for the southern part of Illinois for 25 years and inducted into the National Letter Carriers Association Hall of Fame. He was the only carrier from Illinois ever inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Bonita; a son, Steven Farris and wife, Kristen, Wildwood, MO; a daughter, Kimberly Farris-Wilson and husband, Andrew, Festus, MO; and grandchildren, Logan and Avery Farris and Emma Wilson. Also surviving are siblings, Lendell Patterson, Pat Dial, Darlene Flannell and Curtis Patterson.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl Farris; an infant daughter, Sabrina Gail; one sister, Gail Patterson; and a brother, Duke Patterson.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. for friends and family at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, IL. Stephen has requested that his ashes be spread in his favorite places at a later date by his family.
