Weekend Chase in Williamson County Ends with Crash, Driver’s Arrest

HERRIN – One person was arrested after leading Williamson County law enforcement on a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended with a crash Saturday night. 

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, around 9 p.m. deputies saw a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen hours earlier from Crainville traveling north in the 200 block of 18th Street in Herrin. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop and fled.

Police from Herrin and Energy helped deputies try to stop the vehicle. Stop sticks were used several times, but didn’t work. The vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway after striking a parked vehicle.

The driver, identified as Jesse D. Greene, who is known to law enforcement through extensive prior contact, resisted and fought with deputies resulting in the deployment of a sheriff’s K-9.

Greene was taken into custody and subsequently taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Greene was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail upon being medically cleared a few hours later.

Greene was cited for several traffic-related violations along with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer, Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, Reckless Driving and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
