Friday Crash on IL 149 in West Frankfort Sends Two to Hospital

WEST FRANKFORT – Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Illinois 149 at Jackanicz Road in West Frankfort.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Trenton R. Borders was driving east on 149 and lost control of his 2020 Kia Rio while negotiating a curve. The vehicle struck a ditch embankment.

Borders was taken by ambulance to Herrin Hospital for his injuries. His passenger was airlifted from the scene and taken to a St. Louis area hospital with serious injuries.  

Borders was issued citations for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Illinois State Police, West Frankfort Ambulance, AMR Ambulance and Air Evac.
