BENTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has bought and installed a Tek84 Intercept Body Scanner that will provide a full body scan that can detect both metallic and nonmetallic items including weapons, cell phones, drugs, and other contraband.
A quick 4 second scan can be completed as part of the jail entry and booking process to reveal items under the clothing or within the body according to Sheriff Kyle Bacon.
Items of contraband within a jail facility have always been difficult to control. It has become even more problematic with the influx of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other easily concealed items. The introduction of this equipment at the Franklin County Jail will greatly increase the safety of correctional officers, healthcare staff, law enforcement officers, and all others within the jail facility.
The body scanner was purchased for $141,500. It was made possible by using American Rescue Plan Act Funds, Opioid Abatement Funds, and other grant funding. No local tax dollars were used.
The sheriff thanks the Franklin County Board for their support of this project.
