Crash Shuts Down WB I-64 from Woodlawn to Washington County Line

JEFFERSON COUNTY – Westbound I-64 in Jefferson County remains closed from the Woodlawn exit to the Washington County line due to a crash with a possible hazmat situation Thursday night.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the interstate will be closed for the next 12 to 16 hours for proper clean up.

Westbound traffic is being detoured at the Woodlawn exit south to Illinois 15, west to U.S. 51 and then north to I-64.

I-64 westbound travelers from I-57 are encouraged to exit at the Mt. Vernon exit at Illinois 15, west to U.S. 51, then north to I-64.

The shelter in place order has been lifted but could be reinstated at any moment during the cleanup.

Please use caution traveling the area of the detour as there will be increased traffic along westbound Illinois 15.
