Irvin Eugene Stanford

IUKA – Irvin Eugene Stanford, 96, of Iuka passed away on January 2, 2025. Irvin was the middle child of nine born to Walter and Versie (Meador) Stanford on August 18, 1928. He married Betty B. Smith on September 17, 1946, and she preceded him in death on December 4th, 2012, after 66 amazing years of marriage.

He is survived by his three children, Sandra Springer of Iuka, Eugene (Cathy) Stanford of Woodlawn, and Susan (Brent) Beighley of Iuka; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great- grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Stanford of Texas; a sister, Martha Helpingstein of Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, and three sisters.

Irvin was a businessman for years in Salem with self-help laundries, gas station, tire recapping company, and in Iuka with The House of Plunder and Irv’s Properties. He was also a lifelong farmer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served on Tri-County Electric, Soyland, and IPLA boards, along with County and Community boards – Farm Bureau, Palestine Cemetery and Church, and Romine Township.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at noon, at Evergreen Christian Church in Salem, with Pastor Shannon Bopp officiating. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service. 

Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery on Route 161 Extension Iuka. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Palestine Cemetery Association and will be accepted at L.R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 39, Kell, Illinois 62853, who is honored to be of service to Irvin’s family at this time.
