Energy Mayor Injured by Passing Motorist While Surveying Winter Storm Damage, Driver Arrested

ENERGY – The mayor of Energy was taken to Herrin Hospital around 12:50 Monday afternoon for treatment of injuries including cuts to his face and head after a passing motorist physically battered him while the mayor was surveying the community for winter storm damage.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s investigators attempted to interview the suspect identified as John W. Alexander of Carterville but he refused to cooperate.

Alexander was cited for Aggravated Battery and Threatening a Public Official. He was lodged in the Williamson County Jail.

Energy Police Chief Shawn Ladd says the mayor was treated and released from the hospital. He is in good health and good spirits. The chief thanks everyone for their concern.
