Mt. Vernon Warming Shelter Operation Extended 24 Hours

MT. VERNON – The warming shelter open at the Rolland Lewis Community Building, located on 27th Street in Mt. Vernon, will remain open for an additional 24 hours.

The warming shelter provided a safe and warm place for an additional six people last night.

Due to the ongoing need, the shelter will remain open until Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. The need to continue operating the shelter will be reassessed again tomorrow morning prior to officially closing it.

We would like to thank Jefferson County EMA, Mt. Vernon EMA, United Way and all the volunteers for their continued assistance during this time.

If there are any individuals or organizations that would like to volunteer their time today and tomorrow, please contact EMA Coordinator Bryan Jennings at 618-316-9303.
