SPRINGFIELD – Gloria Jo (Sloan) Reel, age 75, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Gloria was born September 26, 1949, in McLeansboro, IL. She was a daughter of Dwight Lee Sloan and Jessie Bernadine (Thompson) Sloan. Gloria was a sales representative of agricultural products for Monsanto/Elanco/Rhone-Poulenc. Gloria was an avid gardener, loving flowers, quilting and being outdoors. She was a member of the Hamilton County Home Extension and she especially enjoyed playing bells at church. She attended the United Methodist Church when in McLeansboro. She was married to Dr. Charles Earle Reel.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jane Gibbs and husband, Gailon, Salem, IL, and Jennifer Kempiners and husband, Bill, Springfield, IL. Two nieces, Lisa Marie Gibbs and finance, Matt Ban, and Caitlin Smith and husband, John, Wendelin, IL. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive along with a stepdaughter, Carol Shepard, Indiana.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a stepson, Steven Reel.
There will be private, family only, visitation and funeral services at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL, with burial following at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro, IL, at a later date with Pastor Thad Galloway officiating.
