MT. VERNON – We now know the name of the man of who shot and killed himself following a recent car theft in rural Mt. Vernon.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s office identified the victim as 20-year-old Carrion Holmes.
Authorities say Holmes, who was already wanted for stealing a vehicle, died from a single gunshot wound to the head after a confrontation with a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy. The incident happened last Wednesday night, and an investigation by Illinois State Police is ongoing.
