Carbondale Police Make Arrest in Recent Armed Robbery

CARBONDALE – An East St. Louis man has been arrested in connection with a recent armed robbery in the 2300 block of South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say around 12:35 Wednesday morning, they began their investigation and made contact with 19-year-old Elijah Holmes, who initially provided officers with false information about his true identity.

Officers properly identified Holmes and was found to have an Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Violation Warrant. Officers arrested Holmes for the warrant.

Subsequent to his arrest, officers recovered two firearms and ammunition. One of the firearms had previously been reported stolen.

Holmes was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Possession of Firearm Ammunition and Obstructing Justice for knowingly providing a false name to officers.

Holmes was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

Carbondale Police continue their investigation into this incident.
