Morlan is assigned to the general criminal detective division after serving several years in patrol. He is a High Risk Team Member, Field Training Officer, and Firearms Instructor.

Morlan was nominated by Detective Sergeant Kevin Jackson. In Sgt. Jackson’s nomination he stated Morlan has a continued proactive approach to law enforcement and has a thorough work ethic. He stated Morlan is well rounded, passionate about his work, helps others, and is an asset to the department.

Every January nominations are accepted for officer of the year. The awards committee goes over the nominations and selects the officer of the year. This year there were four nominations. Patrolman Brenton Deadmond, Patrolman Michael Gray, and Patrolman Michael Wilson were all nominated in addition to Brylan Morlan. It’s an honor just to be nominated as you are recognized by supervisors for outstanding work and performance from the previous year.

MVPD is grateful to have a hard-working and professional staff to serve the City of Mt. Vernon.

Congratulations to Brylan Morlan on being named the 2024 Officer of the Year.
