HERRIN – Three people were detained following a chase in a stole vehicle that began in Herrin and ended in Jefferson County early Saturday morning.
According to Herrin Police, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 19-year-old Gregory L. Moore, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on charges from the Herrin Police Department and Jefferson County. Herrin officers were notified that the suspect vehicle had been recently reported stolen from Cahokia.
Herrin Police receive a 911 call early Saturday morning regarding an attempted vehicle burglary in the 1000 block of South 16th Street.
Police arrived and saw the suspect vehicle in the area and tried to stop it. Police saw the driver commit several traffic violations and attempted a traffic stop. A high speed pursuit then took place and continued for 22 miles north on Route 148 into Jefferson County, at which time Herrin Police terminated the pursuit.
A short time later, Herrin officers were notified that Jefferson County deputies had located and pursued the suspect vehicle. Three male occupants were detained.
