CHRISTOPHER – A Chicago man charged with Aggravated Battery in connection with a Monday incident at a Christopher business has been released from the Franklin County Jail under pretrial conditions.
Online court records show the Franklin County Court found the charge against 35-year-old Darnell F. Woods wasn’t a detainable offense. Franklin County State’s Attorney Abby Dinn filed a petition to deny pretrial release. A preliminary hearing for Woods was set for Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Woods and another man got into a verbal dispute after he told Woods to get off a newly placed outdoor horse statue at Stoecker’s Saddle Shop Monday.
The victim suffered a cut to his eye and had other facial injuries from the incident.
Christopher Police arrested Woods without incident and took him to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged.
The victim was taken to a local emergency room for his injuries sustained in the incident.
