Capitol News Illinois reports Trump also commuted Blagojevich’s prison sentence in 2020, which allowed the ex-governor to leave prison after eight years instead of serving the full 14.
Blagojevich was convicted corruption charges ranging from attempting to sell president-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat in 2008 to shaking down a children’s hospital CEO for campaign cash.
He is the only Illinois governor to be impeached.
Trump is considering Blagojevich for an ambassador post to Serbia, according to reporting from POLITICO. But while the president said Monday he has no plans for the appointment, he isn’t ruling it out.
