MT. VERNON – Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday arrested 21-year-old Dakota R. Martin of Mt. Vernon at his home on a Jefferson County warrant charging Possession of Child Pornography and took him to the county jail.
Online court records show Martin made his first court appearance by video Friday and a detention hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon. A plea was not entered.
The warrant and resulting arrest were a result of a sheriff’s office investigation, initiated by a cybertip received through the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on Nov. 21 of last year.
The tip led to further investigation, which resulted in multiple search warrants for social media and internet records.
A search warrant was also obtained for Martin’s home in Mt. Vernon. It was served on Jan. 29. Electronic devices were collected for further examination.
The results of the investigation, upon completion, were turned over to the States Attorney’s Office for felony review of criminal charges.
