SESSER – Sesser-Valier School Superintendent Jason Henry says students and staff at the main K-12 school building experience an unexpected fire alarm Thursday afternoon. He says this was not a drill.
The alarm originated from a HVAC ductwork detector in the high school wing. As a cautionary measure, the fire department was called to investigate further with thermal scanning equipment. No fire or “hot-spots” were found.
Students and staff were allowed back inside the school after it was deemed safe for them to do so. School dismissed at its normal time. School was in session today at Sesser-Valier.
Henry says they believe the issue was caused by a faulty ductwork detector, and the school district’s HVAC contractor, Heartland Mechanical, was set to inspect the involved roof-top unit and associated equipment Thursday night to diagnose/address the problem.
Henry added that their emergency plan for fire worked well Thursday afternoon because of everyone’s cooperation.
