PADUCAH – As a safety precaution, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning to close the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge in Paducah at 7 tonight in anticipation of severe winter weather.
The Brookport Bridge has a metal grated deck that cools down quickly when temperatures drop and allows ice to form on the steel.
If weather conditions change rapidly during the first snowfall this afternoon and icing starts to form, KYTC may close the bridge sooner.
Motorists should detour via the I-24 Ohio River Bridge.
KYTC District 1 will provide timely updates when the bridge reopens.
