No One Injured in Multi-Semi Crash on SB I-57 near Goreville

GOREVILLE – Illinois State Police have released more information into Wednesday morning’s multiple semi crash on southbound I-57 near Goreville.

Troopers responded to the scene at 8:50 a.m. and learned that the driver of a 2019 blue Volvo semi with trailer was driving south on I-57 approaching milepost 43 while at the same time the driver of a 2022 white Freightliner semi with trailer was traveling south at the same location in front of the Volvo semi and slowed down in traffic due to weather and road conditions.

The Volvo semi’s driver failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of the white Freightliner semi. Another semi, a 2018 white Freightliner semi with trailer, was going south behind the Volvo semi and the semi’s driver was unable to slow down in time and struck the Volvo semi.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Southbound I-57 was closed and traffic was diverted to eastbound I-24. The roadway reopened at 4 p.m.

The driver of the Volvo semi was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
