Pack of Dogs Attack Man in Rural Williamson County, Flown to Trauma Center

MARION – A man was severely injured and later airlifted to an area trauma center for further treatment after he was attacked by several dogs Saturday evening on Birmingham Lane in rural Williamson County.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s office says deputies responded to a 911 call just after 6 p.m. about 4 to 5 large dogs that had attacked the man. An update regarding his condition has not been released at this time.

Deputies on scene, assisted by Williamson County Animal Control, located nine aggressive dogs. The dogs, which appeared to be a pitbull or pitbull mix, were captured and secured. One of the dogs was struck by a passing motorist on Illinois Route 37.

Investigators on scene believe the dogs attacked the man as a pack. The victim was mauled multiple times as he traveled across the yard attempting to retreat.

The remaining dogs are in the custody of Animal Control.

This remains an ongoing investigation and will be referred to the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office for further review.
