Cannabis, Stolen Gun Found at Carbondale Traffic Stop, Two Arrested

CARBONDALE – Two Murphysboro residents are facing charges after cannabis and a stolen gun were found inside a vehicle during a traffic stop for traffic violations near South Wall Street and East Campus Drive in Carbondale Saturday night.

Carbondale Police say a 15-year-old boy was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Defacing Identification Marks of a Firearm. The boy was lodged in a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance.

Twenty-three-year-old Dijon A. Wyatt was arrested for Possession of Cannabis and released pending a court appearance. The remaining occupants in the vehicle were not charged and released.

Police noticed during the stop observations that led to further investigation. The investigation revealed over 40 grams of cannabis and a stolen gun inside the vehicle.
