MT. VERNON – A Mt. Vernon man, 46-year-old Robert A. Lewis, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for Murder and 6 years in prison for Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving Death in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Thomas Taylor last March.
According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Robert Brands, Lewis was convicted in a January jury trial.
On March 5 of last year, Lewis drove his truck through the alley south of the 2800 block of Veterans Memorial Drive. Taylor was working on a vehicle in the alley when this happened. Both men got into an argument causing damage to their vehicles. As Lewis was leaving, his truck struck Taylor. Taylor was taken to a local hospital where he died.
