WHITEASH/WEST FRANKFORT – Two people have been cited after leading Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies on a 14-mile chase.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on Wednesday when deputies observed a vehicle leaving a home known for selling narcotics near Fowler School Road and Binkley Road in Whiteash. The vehicle failed to use a turn signal, and deputies saw an object being thrown from the passenger-side window.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver, identified as Joseph W. Worley would not stop. Worley fled the scene driving into Franklin County where he left the roadway traveling on power line easements. During this time, two back seat passengers got out with their hands up and surrendered to assisting West Frankfort Police officers. They were released without charges.
The vehicle continued fleeing and came to rest on a dead end private farm road. That’s where Worley and his passenger, Whitney N. Scott, got out of the vehicle and surrendered to law enforcement without incident.
A search of Worley located three used hypodermic syringes that later field tested positive for meth and a small amount of cannabis. A probable cause search of the vehicle located a small amount of cannabis which was determined to belong to Scott.
Worley was issued citations for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding along with several motor vehicle and traffic violations.
Scott was cited for Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
They were taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.
Deputies later canvassed the 14 miles the suspect vehicle traveled while fleeing, but did not find the suspected narcotics which were thrown from the vehicle.
