SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Severe storms rolled through southern Illinois Sunday afternoon and evening.
According to storm reports from the National Weather Service in Paducah, power poles were reported damaged in Olmsted and the roof of the high school was damaged west of New Grand Chain.
Hail fell in Mt. Vernon for about five minutes and nearly covered the ground.
A tornado watch was issued for our area and several severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings were also issued.
Forecasters say an approaching cold front will bring the potential for isolated strong to severe storms as early as late Tuesday night across northern and western areas of our region.
Portions of the region are included in a Marginal Risk late Tuesday night mainly in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.
All modes of severe weather are possible along with brief heavy downpours.

A significant severe weather outbreak is expected Wednesday and Wednesday night as the entire region is included in an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms.
All severe weather threats will be possible including large to very large hail, widespread damaging winds and long track, strong tornadoes.
