Marion Fire Awarded State Grant to Purchase ‘Bunker Gear’

MARION – The Marion Fire Department has been awarded a 2024 Small Equipment Grant from the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire department was awarded $26,000 that will be used to purchase “bunker gear,” specialized protective clothing for firefighters, designed to protect against heat, flames, and hazards during emergencies.

A total of $4 million was awarded to 178 fire departments/districts and EMS providers across the state. The program was established to provide grants of up to $26,000 each for the purchase of small firefighting and ambulance equipment.

The fire marshal’s office received 347 applications, requesting around $7.7 million in funding for this grant period.
