Weather-related Closings for Wednesday, April 2, 2025

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Here’s a list of weather-related closings we have received due to the pending severe storms coming our way later this afternoon. 

SCHOOLS

Marion Unit 2 Schools will be dismissing at 1:30 p.m. Aftercats and all after-school activities canceled. 

Carterville Schools will dismiss at the following times: Tri-C: 1:35, CIS 1:55, CJHS 2:05, CHS 2: There will be no Latchkey services. All buses will run at one hour early dismissal.

Herrin Schools will dismiss at normal times today. All after-school activities and programs canceled.

Crab Orchard Schools say due to the possibility of severe weather later this afternoon, all after school activities are canceled. This includes 1st grade tutoring, latchkey, Good News Club, and high school baseball/softball practice. Please contact the high school office with any after school pick-up arrangements. Johnston City Schools will dismiss early today. Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington will dismiss at 1:50 p.m. JCHS will dismiss at 2:00 p.m. All after school activities including Latchkey have been cancelled.

All Bright Beginnings locations SIC, Harrisburg, Eldorado and Carrier Mills closing at 1:30 p.m.

Agape Christian High School — 12:30 Dismissal

Anna-Jonesboro HS — 2:15 Dismissal

Benton Grade School — 1:30 Dismissal

Carbondale Community HS — 1:30 Dismissal

Cobden School District — 12:00 Dismissal

Giant City #130 — 1:30 Dismissal

Johnson County Schools — 1:00 Dismissal

Mt. Vernon Township High School — 1:00 Dismissal

Murphysboro District #186 — Noon Dismissal

Pinckneyville Schools — 12:30 Dismissal

Shawnee CUSD #84 — 11:00 Dismissal

Thompsonville #174 — 1:30 Dismissal

Trico School District — 12:00 Dismissal

Unity Point School — 1:00 Dismissal

Frankfort CUSD #168 Schools will dismiss 1 hour early today, Wednesday, April 2, 2025. This means Denning will dismiss at 1:40 p.m., FIS at 1:55 p.m., CJHS at 1:56 p.m. and FCHS at 2 p.m.

COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES

John A. Logan College in Carterville will dismiss at noon due to forecasted inclement weather. Go to www.jalc.edu for campus updates.

Due to impending inclement weather, Southeastern Illinois College will close at 1:30 p.m. today. All classes, events, and activities scheduled after 1:30 p.m. are canceled or postponed.

Due to serious forecasted weather conditions and an elevated risk of tornadoes in our area, Kaskaskia College’s main campus and all education centers will close at 12:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Normal college operations will resume tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, 2025. We encourage everyone to stay informed about the weather conditions and take the necessary precautions.

Rend Lake College campuses will close today, April 2, at 1:00 p.m. due to the forecast of afternoon storms in the region. All classes and events scheduled after 1:00 p.m. are canceled.

GOVERNMENT

Due to the potential for damage causing storms this afternoon, Benton City Hall will close at 3 p.m. If you have a water or street emergency, please call the non-emergency line of the Benton Fire Department (618-439-2511) and they will dispatch someone out.
