Man Wrecks Car, Arrested Following Weekend Chase in Williamson County

CREAL SPRINGS – A man is lodged in the Williamson County Jail cited for Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding along with several motor vehicle and traffic violations after leading deputies on a chase late Sunday night.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, they saw the driver, identified as Clarence H. Smock, commit several traffic violations and attempted to stop him. Smock accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled going east on Illinois 166 from Creal Springs.

Deputies responding to the area saw where Smock’s vehicle had left the roadway at the intersection of Illinois 166 and U.S. 45, traversed a ditch and became disabled.

Smock was taken into custody without incident. He had an active Saline County arrest warrant for Failure to Appear for Domestic Battery. Smock also had a suspended driver’s license. He was then arrested and taken to jail.
