MUDDY – A chain-reaction crash involving eight vehicles happened just after 3 Thursday afternoon on U.S. 45 near Pullum Road in Muddy.
According to Illinois State Police, due to dry conditions and south winds, dust was blowing from a plowed field across the highway limiting visibility to near zero.
The crash happened after a vehicle slowed in traffic due to a semi traveling slowly through the dust. Then another vehicle struck the one that slowed for the semi leading to a chain-reaction. One of the drivers involved was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was shut down and reopened at 5:10 p.m.
